The Oregon State Police (OSP) has shared dash cam video to illustrate to motorists why they should stay out of a truck’s blind spots.
The two dash cam videos — one of the truck and the other of a car being pushed sideways along the freeway — were captured on May 1, 2022 on I-205 heading towards north near Clackamas.
“A passenger car was slowly passing to the right of the VMC, when the VMC drifted partially into the right lane striking the car. The car ended up spinning and getting lodged in front of the CMV as it continued down the freeway. The car was pushed sideways for nearly a mile before the two vehicles came to a stop. The VMC driver could not see the particular car because it was to the side and below the driver’s field of vision,” OSP explained.
No serious injuries were reported.
“Let this remind you to always be aware of the vehicles around you. Large utility vehicles (MCVs) have more blind spots than regular passenger cars. Drivers cannot always see around them. So when driving around a VMC, be extra careful and avoid driving too long in their blind spots,” OSP said.
“The second video is low quality and contains audio, but we think you’ll understand,” OSP said.
