The Girls Turn 10: Why Not Expect A Reboot

It’s been 10 years since Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna came into our lives with their problems of 20 years in New York.

In a way, everything seemed a lot simpler back then, didn’t it?

GirlsHBO’s breakthrough comedy created by Lena Dunhampremiered a decade ago and while the show has often been a lightning rod for conversation and debate, its legacy as the perfect distillation of big city life in the mid-2010s remains intact.

With Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosie Mamet, the show depicts the often very messy and complicated, but always honest lives of four friends in New York City as they try to navigate work, relationships, family and heartbreak. Lots and lots of heartache.

The show was nominated for 19 Emmy Awards over its six seasons and won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical in 2013.

Girls also helped launch the two-time Oscar nominee’s career Adam Driverwho played Dunham’s love interest on the show.

Since Girls completed in 2017, the main cast members have all gone on to find further success. Dunham has developed several television projects and created his film pointed stick at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, Williams starred in the 2017 horror phenomenon get outKirke should star in Hulu’s Conversations with friends and Mamet is currently playing on HBO Max’s The stewardess.
