Shocking dash cam footage shows the terrifying moment a car appears to get stuck under the rear of a lorry’s trailer and is dragged along the A38. The truck driver appears unconscious as the car is first hit after the car gets too close and the hood gets stuck at high speed under the truck’s crash bars.
After a while the silver Ford Focus manages to break free before swerving over the edge of the grass and back onto the carriageway near Branston, Burton on Trent, before coming to a stop. Significant damage was sustained to the front of the car which was collapsed by the collision with the crash bars at the rear of the trailer known as rear underrun.
Another motorist was able to capture the shocking footage on his dash cam and said Staffordshire live how he couldn’t believe what he was seeing as the incident unfolded on Friday, June 10. The driver said that at first he thought the car was tailing the truck, but was horrified to find he was stuck and dragged away by the vehicle.

The motorist who shot the footage did not want to be named, said: ‘The Ford Focus had just swerved just before that which is why I started filming. Then they seemed to have accelerated and entered in the back of the truck and it looked like they had been pulled by its safety bar.
“When they hit the truck, I guess their airbags went off because you can see them at the end of the video in the cabin of the car. Maybe the airbags stunned the driver, that’s why he continued to drive after impact.. But the swerve before and the crash with the truck, and to continue after that, we assumed it was a drunk driver at first, but it could have been something medical.
“You can see a gray SUV at the end of the footage pull up in two lanes and the driver of that car got out and walked over to the focus, opened the driver’s door and checked the man .”
Other drivers who saw the incident all stopped to check on the driver of the Focus and the truck also pulls over after realizing it had been hit from behind. The driver of the Focus miraculously appeared unharmed, but their car was wrecked in the front.
The images, lasting one minute and 23 seconds, were shot on the A38, Lichfield Road, towards Branston.
The truck comes to a stop in a rest area as the Focus rolls first before coming to a complete stop on the pavement. The images were taken at 1:22 p.m. Friday. It is not known what happened to those inside the car – presumably a driver and a passenger.
