The carnage continues in Illinois at an alarming rate as brave men and women continue to risk their lives to keep residents safe. By now we are all aware of the horrific tragedy in Highland Park, Illinois, which claimed the lives of, injured many, and cast a dark cloud over countless people for the rest of their lives. It’s really heartbreaking, frustrating and scary. Many people across the country, including me, are reluctant to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
In Illinois, the crime is often talked about, sometimes mocked, and much of the country knows it. Despite all the natural beauty and things to do, safety becomes the primary concern for residents. I think what a lot of us in the state take for granted is the men and women who uphold the law. These courageous people do their job to the best of their abilities, even if they don’t know what awaits them from day to day.
The police have had a bad reputation over the past decade and it is important to remember that the number of tough, respectful, caring and courageous individuals serving our communities far outweighs the number of “bad cops”. which we may have heard about in the news. How they can do their day-to-day work is beyond me. An Illinois State Trooper comes to mind after watching footage of his car being attacked by a mob in Chicago.
This soldier noticed traffic stopping at an I-90 ramp at Division Street in Chicago.
Police report that a group of around 100 people swarmed the soldier’s squad car, jumping on the bonnet, smashing the windshield and kicking and throwing rocks, bricks and fires fireworks on the vehicle.
While watching the video, you can hear the soldier’s conversation diligently. You can tell he was definitely worried but still keeping his cool. It must have been a terrifying moment to experience.
The scum involved in this act of violence were relentless. One of the individuals sprinted towards the soldier’s vehicle, jumped on the hood and smashed the windshield with his foot. It is not known if the soldier suffered any physical injuries during this vicious attack.
You can watch the video in its entirety, but if violence like this triggers you, I don’t recommend it.
