Texarkana, Arkansas Media Manager, Eric Ethridge (38), recently won the TXKToday photo art contest held in February with his beautiful image of our own downtown post office. Eric has more than just a camera up his sleeve. In fact, he’s an adventure photographer who travels the world and experiences everything from hiking to rock climbing to swimming with great white sharks.
“My passion has evolved from video to photography over the years. When I was younger, I started doing videography in my backyard with a group of boxer friends. It eventually led me to do weddings, which I still do about 30 a year, and pushed me into adventure photography,” Eric said. “What really sparked my passion was when I took a life-changing trip to the Grand Canyon. That trip was kind of my ‘ah ha’ moment, where I realized how I loved to travel and photograph everywhere I went. Now I try to travel and do photography whenever I get the chance,” Eric said.
Eric not only takes amazing action shots wherever he goes, but has also created his own YouTube channel, available here, where he combines his interest in videography and photography. His channel has videos of many of his amazing trips including Iceland, swimming with great white sharks and more. Each video is specific to the adventure he has been on, and most include serene music that leaves viewers in awe of the magnificent beauty he is able to capture.
Eric has four big trips planned this year including: Storm chasing with professional storm chasers in May. At the end of May, he will go white-water rafting in Cataract Canyon, which is one of the largest white-water rafting sites in North America. In July he will return to Isla Mujeres to swim with great white sharks for the second time. (Be sure to check back in July for TXKToday’s exclusive look at Eric’s journey before Shark Week begins on Discovery). In September, he will be on his biggest adventure yet! “I’m going to fly into remote Alaska with four other photographers to search for bears in the wild. We’re going to search Katmai National Park, and I’m so excited about this adventure and this opportunity,” said Eric.
Eric’s passion is definitely something worth highlighting. Take a look below at some of the incredible footage he’s captured over the years. A big shout out and thank you to Eric Ethridge for submitting his art and winning the community vote for his image of our local downtown post office!
