leica: Xiaomi 12 Ultra likely to be equipped with a Leica camera, the smartphone giant announces a merger with a German company

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced that it will partner with German camera maker Leica. The brand said that the first flagship smartphone of this collaboration will be launched in July this year.

The German company is known for collaborating with tech brands such as

and Huawei in the past. However, this is not the first time that a Chinese smartphone maker has collaborated with a European company to improve its camera capabilities. Earlier, OnePlus and OPPO teamed up with Swedish company Hasselblad.

Xiaomi, in a press release, announced its long-term cooperation with Leica to develop camera technologies for its upcoming flagship smartphones. In its statement, the Chinese smartphone brand said that the two companies share similar ideas on mobile imaging systems. According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, the partnership will improve the company’s imaging strategy.

“Xiaomi is focused on creating the ultimate user experience and has always hoped to explore the capabilities of smartphone photography to the extreme. Xiaomi and Leica agree on each other’s goals and ideas and value the advantages and each other’s industry. This cooperation will give a powerful boost to Xiaomi’s imaging strategy,” said Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group.

Xiaomi’s latest launch was its high-end smartphone which was launched on April 27. The smartphone comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and its triple rear camera module is headlined by a 50MP primary camera. The Chinese smartphone brand’s latest offering is available on Xiaomi’s official website and e-commerce giant Amazon.
