Jen Psaki’s awkward moments that were caught on camera

When troops were officially withdrawn from Afghanistan in August 2021, it seemed to mark the end of 20 war-torn years in the region. And while the troop evacuation looked like a victory for some, for others it set off a chain of events that resulted in chaos. Images and videos have been released around the world showing local Afghans trying to board a US Air Force plane, threats from the Taliban have increased anxiety levels across the world and chaos wide-eyed has become the norm (via The New York Times). Amid the disbanding situation, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki faced a barrage of questions from reporters, demanding answers as the unruly evacuation unfolded in real time, according to CNN. Tensions mounted and an awkward moment once again occurred between Psaki and Fox News’ Peter Doocy.

Doocy told the press secretary that criticism was being leveled against President Joe Biden because of the “way in which he ordered” the evacuations to occur. In the same breath, Doocy asked Psaki about the “abandoned” Americans in the unstable region. Not taking the criticism well, Psaki told Doocy that his language was “irresponsible”.

“We are committed to bringing Americans who want to go home,” she said before telling Doocy that she was “calling [him] out” for his characterization of the issue.
