How to apply for a driver’s license online: step-by-step guide

Are you of legal age to drive a two or four wheeler and want to get a license? Well, you’ll need a learner’s license first to learn how to drive while protecting yourself and avoiding fines on the roads. You can get a license by visiting the RTO (Regional Transport Office) and dropping one off. Along with this, the Indian government has also digitized the process to make it easier and more convenient.

The Government of India allows citizens to obtain a learner’s permit under Section 4, which provides that a person over the age of 16 can obtain a driver’s license to drive a gearless two-wheeler whose engine capacity does not exceed 50cc with parent/guardian consent.

So if you want to apply for a learner’s license or if you want to get a permanent license, you can simply apply for it online. While the process of obtaining a learner’s permit is completely digitized, for a permanent driver’s license you must be physically present at the transport office and qualify for a driving test.
