PONTIAC, Michigan (FOX 2) – Two men and a teenager are accused of an armed home invasion Friday in his apartment, foiled by the resident who fought one of the suspects for the weapon. After fleeing the house, a chase by Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies ensued and ended in an accident and arrest.
MPs said Dresean Hopkins, 17, was driving the car, while Jayln Cowart, 23, pointed a gun at the woman’s head before she caught it, causing a fight. The third suspect, Jesse Branch, was also arrested, while a fourth suspect was able to escape from the suspects vehicle.
The incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. Friday at an apartment in Cherryhill Block 100.
The woman told MPs the three men knocked on her door and when she answered one of the defendants – later identified as Cowart – allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at her head. The woman grabbed the gun and a fight ensued. Cowart was able to regain control of the weapon and the three men fled.
The deputies responded and attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicle. After a brief chase, the suspects vehicle collided with another vehicle near the intersection of Cloverlawn and West Kennett in Pontiac.
Four suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran in different directions. A sheriff’s K-9 unit responded and three of the four were arrested in the area. The K-9 located the weapon used in the crime as well as a mask worn by one of the suspects.
Pontiac Police have released video of the pursuit’s dash camera and photos of suspects following arraignment.
