The biker refused to stop and tried to evade police by attempting to enter The Common, which was occupied by pedestrians.

In a bid to end the chase, the officer driving made tactical contact to stop the bike – and although Watson and his passenger fled the scene, it wasn’t long before the biker was captured by the police, and also found in possession of cannabis.

PC Paul Weston of the Highways Policing Unit said: ‘The footage from this chase shows how reckless Watson’s actions were.’ It was a very busy time of day and there were a lot of cars and pedestrians in the neighborhood.

“The speed limits are there for a reason and it’s extremely lucky that there was no one seriously injured or worse as a result of his speeding.

“We are committed to apprehending all motorists who show a complete disregard for the laws of the road.”

On Monday October 24 at Southampton Magistrates Court, Watson was convicted of driving without due care or attention, driving without a licence, failing to stop, using a fraudulent registration mark, possession of cannabis and driving without insurance. He had pleaded guilty to all of the offences.

He was sentenced to six weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. He was also fined £400 and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a victim fine surcharge of £128.
