Dashcam shows 15-year-old driver at fault in crash that sent tractor-trailer into Ace Hardware store

Florida police cited a 15-year-old with a learner’s permit for a major accident that left several people injured last week.

The crash happened Friday, January 14, in Jacksonville, Florida.

A truck struck a turning passenger vehicle at an intersection, then struck a third vehicle, which slammed into a fourth vehicle. The out-of-control truck crashed off the road and into an Ace Hardware store, causing severe structural damage. The truck rammed one of the store owners and pinned another store owner.

The truck driver, the two co-owners of the hardware store, a 15-year-old motorist and her 11-year-old female passenger were all taken to hospital for treatment of various injuries.

Following an investigation into the crash, police determined that the 15-year-old motorist, who was driving on a learner’s licence, was responsible for the multi-vehicle accident.

According to First Coast News, the teenage driver first told police she had a green arrow to turn left in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer. However, video from the tractor-trailer’s dash cam showed the truck driver in fact had the all-clear.

The teenage driver was cited for failing to yield the right of way and violating a learner’s permit.
