Multi-vehicle dash cam captured a chilling close call involving a sand truck and a school bus that happened in Ohio this week.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. on April 19 in Montville Township, Ohio.
In dash cam video provided by the Montville Police Department to News 5 Clevelandyou can see a school bus stopped in the north lane of State Route 57 with lights and stop arm activated.
A driver of a utility vehicle carrying sand who approaches the stopped bus is apparently unable to stop the vehicle. He can be heard on the dash cam shouting, “Stop, stop, stop, stop, no!”
A pickup truck driver in the southbound lane realizes the truck cannot stop and backs up, giving the truck driver just enough room to thread the switch and avoid hitting the bus or other vehicle .
The truck driver is finally able to pull over and the dash cam appears to pick up his phone conversation with someone from the company. The driver reportedly pulled the truck back into a truck yard before police could arrive on the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reportedly conducted an inspection to determine if a mechanical fault was a factor in the accident, but the results have not yet been released.
Montville police say charges could be filed.
However, the Montville Police Department also took to social media to salute the actions of the trucker: “Thanks to the prompt and professional actions of the trucker, what would have been a major crisis has been avoided and many lives have probably been saved.
