MERIDIAN, Idaho (WSVN) – An Idaho state soldier and a motorist are both fortunate enough to be alive and well after they narrowly miss being hit by a truck.

Video shared by Idaho State Police shows the soldier and motorist along Interstate 84 in Meridian on Wednesday.

Police said the soldier was helping the stranded motorist with a flat tire when a white truck crashed into the motorist’s Toyota.

Both the soldier and the motorist were able to jump out of the way and avoid serious injury.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that a driver descending the freeway began to slow before passing the cruiser, as required by law. However, as they were slowing down, they were struck by another vehicle resulting in a chain accident involving a total of four vehicles.

The crash eventually sent a black van crash into a white van, and that white van crashed into the Toyota on the side of the road.

Police said the soldier and motorist sustained minor injuries. The rider was taken to hospital, but the motorist did not need to be transported.

“Everyone, know that your ATTENTION is NECESSARY to keep rescuers, road workers and all of us safe,” police said. “Avoid distractions. Be a focused and alert driver. We are in the same boat to protect each other on the roads. “
