A Wildlife Adventure and Shadow Tactics are the next Epic Games Store freebies – Destructoid

We could all use a little time

It’s Friday, and that means digital retailer Epic Games Store is ready to reveal the next titles it’ll be bringing to its users for free — and this week, it’s a real mix of wholesomeness and gratuitous violence, with the arrival of Alba: A Wildlife Adventure and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.

Developed by British company ustwo Games, the almost unbearably sound game Alba: A Wildlife Adventure received critical and public acclaim in 2020. It is the simple story of a young explorer who stumbles upon a needy Mediterranean island while on vacation. Armed with little more than a phone camera, a metric ton of wits, and her friends and associates, Alba sets out to capture the beauty and wonders of Pinar del Mar, determined to prevent its gentrification by ruthless capitalists.

With a distinct visual style, leisurely-paced exploration gameplay, and a relaxed approach to finishing in one sitting, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure is a great title for spending a lazy Sunday afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of the waking world and explosive action of its bigger budget brethren. Take the trip.

Developed by Mimimi Games and released on PC and consoles in 2016, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is a stealth real-time tactics title in the vein of scalpel-accurate party planners such as Commandos Where Desperadoes. Set against the backdrop of Edo-era Japan, players guide a team of assassins with unique skills as they attempt to locate a mysterious warlord known only as “Kage-sama”.

A samurai, a geisha, a thief and a ninja are the group of four tasked with using subterfuge, stealth, distraction and good old fashioned ultraviolence in order to complete a series of missions and uncover the truth about their mission, their prey, and, amazingly, themselves. For fans of the “mechanical planning” of the Commandos series, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun definitely worth a visit.

Alba: A Wildlife Adventure and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun can be downloaded from the Epic Games Store starting November 10. Until then, users can still afford the current gifts Filament and Rising Storm 2: Vietnam.
